We were craving Fish and Chips…
We visited THE LION & ROSE on a Thursday evening and sat outside on the patio. First-time diners (recently moved to the area – California escapees) at this British Pub eatery in San Antonio, we were impressed by the menu that included typical appetizers like hot wings and chicken strips but also Scotch Eggs, Pepper Seared Ahi, and beer-battered mushrooms and, get this, seriously: BRIXTON Poutine (you know, the traditional English chips with Guinness cheese sauce, beef and fried egg (!!)!; four choices of salads, and 12 entrees (going back next time for the Central London Chicken and Vegetable Curry, or maybe the Shepard’s Pie, or wait… my wife wants to try the Bangers and Mash??). We decided to do the Fish and Chips – what a great decision!! The service was excellent, the manager even checked in with us, and the food arrived promptly and at temperature. The fish was battered perfectly, the inside tender and juicy (lemon and malt vinegar provided), and there was an outstanding, delicious remoulade. The entree included either cottage fries, English chips, or kettle chips, of which we had the English chips that were seasoned perfectly. The atmosphere relaxed, the evening was even better when we got our Sticky Toffee Pudding that was a work of art and as delicious as it looked. Don’t miss this place. So glad we found it.
